Our idols’ inspirations: PLDT’s Dy, Reyes, Alcantara reveal their biggest supporters

In the world of professional sports, talent and hard work are essential, but no athlete succeeds alone. The journey to greatness is often shaped by the unwavering support of loved ones, mentors, and fans. For the PLDT High Speed Hitters, this support system has been their foundation as they continue to battle through the PVL All-Filipino Conference—the league’s longest-running tournament to date.

Strength in Support: The People Behind Their Success
While the High Speed Hitters are known for their grit and skill on the court, their personal journeys are just as inspiring. Whether recovering from injuries, adjusting to new roles, or striving to achieve a championship dream, these athletes credit their success to the people who stand by them through thick and thin.

Kim Kianna Dy: A Steady Rock in Dwight Ramos
Opposite spiker Kim Kianna Dy has faced one of the toughest battles in her career—coming back from a knee injury sustained in 2023. But through every step of her recovery, she had Dwight Ramos, her boyfriend and international basketball star, as her pillar of strength.
“I have to give him credit since he’s been there for me since day one, especially through my injury,” Dy shares. “He’s been a constant source of support throughout my recovery, inspiring me to give my best no matter where I am in my journey.”
Ramos, having experienced his own share of injuries as an athlete, understands the emotional and physical struggles of rehabilitation. His words of encouragement and his presence have helped Dy stay focused, patient, and resilient as she reclaims her place on the court.

Angge Alcantara: Family and Mentorship as a Guiding Light
Rookie setter Angge Alcantara is navigating her first professional season with the responsibility of leading the team’s offense. Stepping up in place of veteran Kim Fajardo, Alcantara acknowledges that she wouldn’t be where she is today without the people who have supported her from the very beginning.
“I would like to thank my family and my partner for always being there to support me on and off the court,” she says. “I would also like to thank Coach Russelle Galang for guiding and supporting me ever since I started playing volleyball until now.”
With the guidance of her mentors and the steadfast love of her family, Alcantara is proving to be a crucial piece in PLDT’s ongoing campaign.

Mika Reyes: A Family-Driven Passion
For Mika Reyes, one of the league’s most formidable middle blockers, her biggest motivation stems from her family, teammates, and the fans who have cheered for her every step of the way.
“Every game, I play not just for myself but for them,” Reyes says, emphasizing the deep connection she has with her loved ones and the PLDT community.
Their encouragement fuels her drive to perform at her best, ensuring that every match is played with heart and purpose.

The Power of Fans: The Extra Push in Every Game
Beyond personal connections, the PLDT High Speed Hitters recognize the immense role their fans play in their journey.
“The fans play a big role in helping boost the team’s morale,” Dy says. “Seeing them support us through ups and downs helps uplift the team’s spirit.”
Alcantara echoes this sentiment, stating that the unwavering support of the fans keeps her motivated to give her all in every match.
“I am so happy they welcomed me to be part of the PLDT family,” she shares.
For Reyes, knowing that fans believe in them serves as a constant reminder to keep pushing forward.
“Their support means everything. Seeing them cheer, whether in the stands or online, gives us that extra boost,” she says.

Chasing the Championship Dream
With an 8-3 record in the elimination round and an impressive win against powerhouse team Creamline Cool Smashers, the PLDT High Speed Hitters are heading into the qualifiers with confidence and momentum. Under the leadership of Coach Rald Ricafort, the team is determined to go even further in their pursuit of their first PVL title.
“‘Pusong PLDT’ for us means giving our all during training and games and never stopping until we reach our goal,” Dy explains. “When things get hard, we remind ourselves why we’re doing this—it’s because of love and the passion we have for the team and the game.”
And that love, fueled by the people who believe in them, is what keeps the High Speed Hitters pushing through every challenge.
